Training provided to Volunteers

Your journey as a volunteer begins with attending training sessions twice a month with our team, which lays the groundwork for the comprehensive five-day training program offered by the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).

This foundational training delves deep into the responsibilities and tasks of a Community First Responder (CFR). As part of this process, you will be trained in essential life-saving skills alongside your fellow team members.

After an appropriate duration of this preparatory training, we will guide and support you through the application and interview process with SECAmb to become an official Community First Responder.

Upon successful completion of the SECAmb’s training, you’ll undergo a brief orientation. Following that, you’ll commence your role as a Community First Responder, working closely with an experienced Mentor. Once both you and your Mentor are confident in your capability to operate independently, you will be granted the authorization to do so.

You will learn……

  •  Basic Life Support

  •  Use of a Defibrillator

  • Care of the Unconcious Patient
  • Medical Emergencies

  • Minor Trauma

  •  Limited Use of Drugs

After qualification, refresher training is carried out during bi-monthly training meetings held at Polegate SECAmb Make Ready Centre.
